Making the drainage layer for Amadeo II
27 September 2008 - Comments (0) | Construction |
After all the rain, Amadeo II land had become a sticky mud pit, where no machine could come in. So we did a thick drainage layer with gravel and coarse stones to stabilize the ground and allow drilling trucks to come in. We are soon expecting 2 drilling machines to come for drilling the boreholes of Amadeo I and II geothermal system.
From mud to stones
Rain has been pouring in this second half of september. If we had initially planned to bring the drilling team on the ground of Amadeo II, it was not an option anymore. So we made a drainage layer that the drilling machines can pass onto and that can be reused to make the concrete foot of the building.

We tried to used gravel at first but the ground was just too muddy for that.

Coarse stones, very similar to the ones used in ballast for rail tracks eventually did the trick. We used around 56 tons of material on the upper part.

For the lower part, that is bigger, we used around 70 tons of stones to make a nice stabilized ground.

Job done!
The work finished yesterday, under the rain. We have now two platforms ready for drilling and we are expecting the drilling team for the weekend.
