Making of the armed concrete base slab of Amadeo II - part 2 We progressed on the second part of Amadeo II (A3). The base slab of A3 is supported on one side by the connective wall of A4. The weather allowed us to escape from the muddy ground. From the ground, work goes in several layers : drainage, footer slab, hydro-insulation, protective slab, reinforcement and finally concrete of the base slab. We will now be able to progress A3 and A4 in parallel.

Drainage layer

We started to work with fine sand, from the ground and to fill the space along the connective wall on A4. Then, we put a thick layer of small stones. Once the layer was flattened and compacted, we cast the footer slab.

Footer slab

Pouring concrete for the footer slab was done with MARMIL inženjering. Marmil team was very skilled to stabilized the small concrete pump in the configuration we had.

Hydro-insulation and reinforcement

Using days of good weather to the best, the hydro-insulation primer was passed the day after the footer slab was done and the 2 layers of hydro-insulation were done together with the protective slab on the next day. We could then start to install the reinforcement for the armed concrete base slab.

Like on the first part, the base slab is 40cm thick and reinforcement is installed in 2 layers separated by thickening beams. We use standard iron meshes and extra iron beams where supportive elements are located.

On the side of A4 (the part of Amadeo II that is already done), the support was particularly strong as the slab of A3 is ending on top of the connective wall, about 1 meter above ground.

Pouring concrete

MARMIL Inženjering sent us its new concrete pump for pouring concrete on the base slab.

This base slab has a simple rectangular shape and is smaller than the one we did before for A4.

We have a video that shows the process of pouring and smoothing concrete. You can notice a worker with a small metal stick on the video. He is simply checking the thickness of the slab.
